I Want To Quit My Job And Build An Online Business!

Today was an interesting day, a classic example of why I want to quit my job and build an online business. Part of the reason I am writing this post is a reminder to myself of why I want to earn a full-time income online.  I will get into the details below, but the alarm ringing in my ears at way too early o’clock in the morning was not a great start to the day. Well, that’s a wrap on the three day weekend!

Ugh, back to work

That’s right, I have a full-time job that pays the bills.  Like a lot of people out there, I don’t especially like my job, but I don’t really have much choice.  So each and every morning, I wait until pretty much the last possible moment to get out of bed, scramble to get ready for the day, and hit the road.

Thankfully my teenagers take after their mom, and not me, they get themselves up and ready for the day, and I don’t have to do anything.  They are very self-sufficient, I am not really sure how I fit into this picture.

Anyway, back to my day

During the week, I hate getting out of bed in the morning, probably because I know for the most part what lies ahead at work.  So, I jump in the car, drop my daughter off at school, and away I go, fighting with all of the other parents who are in the same boat.

My commute is one of the most un-fun parts of the day.  I really hate spending two unproductive hours in the car each day.  That is why I really want to quit my job someday and work for myself. I have a plan, and this blog fits the bill nicely.

If you hate your commute so much, why don’t you move closer to work?  Well, I used to work closer to home and then as jobs go, that one went bye-bye.  So I had to find another job.  Instead of uprooting my family, and kids from schools and friends, my wife and I decided it was best to commute.  After all, it’s only an hour each way, how bad can it be right?  Well, it sucks, I can tell you that.  Crazy drivers, I thank god every day when I get to work and back home safely.

Service with a smile?

Currently, we are down two people at work, one of those being the boss.  Our team of six people is now down to four, and our boss was a very critical component of our success.

So the four of us are picking up the slack, no telling if they are going to fill those two positions or not.  Such is life sometimes in the corporate world.  You make do with fewer resources but are expected to produce the same amazing results with high efficiency.

It’s month-end at work, and in the finance/accounting department, that calls for long hours.  We have to close the books for the month, and this is a pretty stressful time for everyone.  It’s not like we are saving lives, but the higher-ups don’t see it that way.  I just wish everyone could take a breath and look at the big picture.  Again, we are understaffed, so that makes this timeframe even more of a challenge.

For the most part, I like the people I work with I just want to do something else with my life.  I have been down the corporate road, and it will chew you up and spit you out if you let it.  Phrases like, “I am going to need you to cancel that vacation you have had planned for 6 months”, or “I am going to need you to work this weekend”, “Sorry about your anniversary, but we really have a lot of work to do”, etc are the main reason I want to do something else with my life.  Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines!

Everyone at work is so stressed out all the time because all they are worried about are the numbers, it gets to be a broken record. If I were doing something meaningful, helping other people, I would get so much more out of life and my job.

Working late gets very old

Yes, it’s the busy time of the month, so 12 hour days are inevitable, 14 hours if you include commute time.  That leaves 10 hours for other things I would rather be doing, sleeping, spending time hanging out with my family, working out at the gym, did I mention sleeping?

Tomorrow will be more of the same.  Next month will be even worse since it’s the end of the quarter and everyone will be in a tizzy to get their numbers as soon as possible. UGH!! I know it’s the career I chose, but I will admit I chose poorly. After years of corporate work, I am ready to create my own freedom.

Freedom is what I really want

Freedom is something I have been thinking a lot about lately, the main reason I want to quit my job so badly.  I want the freedom to work when I want, where I want.  I want the freedom to be able to hit the gym at 10:00 in the morning, instead of after work when everyone is there.

I want the freedom to work at 10:00 pm or 4:00 am if that fits better into my schedule for the day. I am tired of having a boss micro-manage my every move.  I once had a boss who would send me an email and then show up at my desk before the email even arrived.  Oh, I have had some doozies over the years when it comes to bosses.  Another reason I want to quit my job and work online full-time.

I want my hard work and dedication to mean something to someone other than me

Working online, earning a full-time income would allow me some of the freedoms I am seeking.  I would not have to commute to work, losing precious hours in my day that could be spent way more productively.  I wouldn’t have to work on a schedule that is convenient for someone else.

Reaching people like me

I am really hoping to reach other people just like me.  People who work hard, are dedicated, but just feel kind of stuck.  I have felt that way for years, and I can tell you it is so easy to fall into that rut and just go through the motions.

That is another reason I decided to start a blog about making money online, it’s something I finally found in my life that I am passionate about.  I have tried to be excited about jobs, but that just hasn’t worked for me.

I am on a journey, and my ultimate goal is to kick that job to the curb and build my very own online business from the ground up.  I want to help people along the way, and show them it is possible.

The best way I can think of to have the freedoms I want in my life, which include the ability to make more money, more family time, more flexible working hours, etc. is to start my online business.

My hard work will pay off

I know it takes a lot of hard work, and I am up for the challenge.  How about I use those 14 hours each day to build my online business, which seems like a much more productive use of my time.

For example, today I worked late, drove to pick my daughter up from volleyball practice, got home late, ate some dinner, went for a walk with my wife and still made time to bust out this blog post. If I can do it, I really think it’s possible for anyone.

I am committed to this, and I want to not only build a business for a full-time income, but I also want to secure a better future for my family.  See when I create a business, I will also develop sustainable sources of passive income for years to come, and that is really exciting.

I am mainly looking for more out of life.  We all get so wrapped up in work and our daily routine, I get it.  But how about a guy like me, who has decided enough is enough and I want to do something different, and I want more for my life and my family.

The reasons why I can’t wait to build my business and eventually quit my job are numerous.  I want to create something from the ground up.  I want to secure a better future.  I want to spend more time with my family.  I want a bigger paycheck!

Jobs aren’t all bad

Maybe you like your job, and if so, I commend you.  Jobs offer a steady paycheck, which starting your own online business does not.  Which is why I am starting an online business while I am otherwise employed.

More and more I want to work online full-time.  That’s what this blog is all about. It’s a way for me to vent and also to reach people like me.  People who have been working for someone else all their life and wanted more, but don’t know where to start.

Sometimes people get stuck in a rut and don’t know how to get out. That is where I have been for many years.  Going through the motions at a job kind of sucks the life out of you. That’s why I think I have discovered a better way.

Follow me on this journey and see where it takes us.  I am game, are you?
